Getting Started with Scrytics: The Magic: The Gathering Scanner That Sees Everything
Scrytics is the card scanner, collection tracker and price ledger for Magic: The Gathering. Here's what it does, how it works, and what's coming at launch.
Scrytics · April 18, 2026
Magic: The Gathering has 100,000 printings across 971 sets. In ten languages. With foil, etched, showcase, borderless, retro, extended-art, and serialised variants of the same card. Pricing changes daily across three different markets. Every six weeks Wizards prints another 300 cards.
No human — no matter how hardcore — remembers all of that. You shouldn’t have to.
Scrytics is the app I wanted to exist. A scanner that actually recognises foils. A price tracker that shows the whole year, not just the spot. A collection manager that knows the difference between a First Edition Alpha Lightning Bolt and a 2021 Secret Lair reprint. A deckbuilder that catches illegal colour-identity leaks before you paste them into Moxfield.
What it does
Scrytics is four apps stitched together by a shared database.
The four pillars
- Card scanner — on-device ML identifies any Magic card in under a second. Foils, sleeves, low light, every language.
- Price ledger — 365 days of daily data from Scryfall, CardMarket and TCGPlayer, tracked separately per finish.
- Collection tracker — binders, conditions, finishes, signed notes; total value live against your choice of market.
- Deck builder — legality-aware for every format, mana curve, colour identity, live pricing on your list.
What’s under the hood
The catalog syncs from Scryfall’s bulk data every two days. About 100,000 English printings, plus 400,000 foreign-language names across ten languages (German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified and Traditional Chinese).
The scanner uses a custom vision model trained on foils, sleeves, and the 300 new printings that Wizards drops every set cycle. It doesn’t use your internet connection to identify cards — the full 100,000-card visual index runs on-device.
Prices come from three sources to triangulate: Scryfall Cash for broad market, CardMarket for the European secondary market, and TCGPlayer for the North American secondary. Every card has all three lines side-by-side so you can spot when they diverge (which happens more than you’d think on foils and older promos).
Who Scrytics is for
If you play Magic casually and want to know what your binder is worth, it’s overkill. If you play Commander and want to build decks without constantly jumping to Moxfield and Scryfall in separate tabs, it’s the thing. If you collect seriously and need per-finish price history across three markets, it’s the only app that has it.
What’s shipping and what’s in beta
Most of what’s described above ships at launch:
